Contract clause extraction accuracy

Legal team here. We’re evaluating Qomplement for extracting specific clauses and terms from commercial contracts. Things like:

  • Termination clauses
  • Payment terms
  • Liability limitations
  • Governing law/jurisdiction
  • Non-compete provisions
  • Confidentiality terms

Early testing has been promising on some but inconsistent on others. Payment terms and governing law extract well (probably because they tend to follow standard phrasing). But termination clauses and liability limitations are trickier — they’re often buried in dense paragraphs and can be phrased a hundred different ways.

Has anyone in legal had success with clause extraction? What template strategies worked for you?

We’ve used it for contract review in consulting. For the tricky clauses, I found that giving multiple example phrasings in the field description helped. Something like ‘Termination clause — may be labeled Early Termination, Contract Termination, Right to Terminate, or similar.’

For due diligence specifically — we’ve used it to extract key terms from large sets of contracts during M&A reviews. It’s great for the first pass to flag contracts that need human review. Cuts the initial triage time significantly.
