Excel filling drops formatting on date columns

When using Excel filling, date fields in the target Excel lose their formatting. The source data has dates like “03/15/2026” but after filling, the Excel shows them as serial numbers (like 46097).

This only happens when the target cell is pre-formatted as a date type. If I format the cell as Text first, the date string comes through correctly but then Excel doesn’t recognize it as a date for formulas.

Using Chrome on Windows if that matters.

I’ve seen this too. Workaround: format the cells as “Custom” with format mm/dd/yyyy instead of using the built-in Date format. Seems to preserve correctly with that approach.
