Qomplement vs the old way — honest comparison

I’ve been seeing some really positive posts here and wanted to give a balanced take after using Qomplement for about 6 months. Full disclosure: I like the product, but I think it’s fair to talk about both sides.

What’s genuinely great:

  • Accuracy on standard document types (invoices, receipts, common forms) is excellent
  • The template system is powerful once you learn it
  • API is well-documented and reliable
  • Support team has been responsive

Where it falls short (for now):

  • Handwritten content is still a struggle — if your documents have handwritten notes or signatures mixed with printed text, expect some misses
  • The learning curve for template creation is steeper than I expected. Took our team about 2 weeks to feel comfortable
  • Processing speed on large batches could be faster (though it’s gotten better since we started)
  • No native integration with our document management system (we had to build a custom connector)

The honest bottom line:
For us, it’s been worth it. The time savings outweigh the limitations. But if your workflow is mostly handwritten documents or you need real-time processing of single pages, you might want to test carefully before committing.

Would love to hear if others have found workarounds for any of the limitations I mentioned.

Appreciate the honest take! On the batch processing speed — I found that using the async API endpoints and processing in parallel (I do batches of 10) significantly improved throughput. Not a fix for the underlying speed but a decent workaround.

The learning curve point is spot on. We almost gave up in week 1. What helped us was actually reaching out to support and getting a walkthrough of template best practices. After that it clicked much faster.

Agree on the handwritten content issue. We deal with insurance forms that sometimes have handwritten sections and those are the ones that need the most manual review. Hoping this improves over time.
